A Self-Awareness

Self-Awareness and Expressing Your Creativity - On Developing Self-Awareness and Being Self-Aware

Self-Awareness and Expressing Your Creativity

A big part of building self-awareness is being able to express your creativity. I’ve talked with many people over the years who deny their creativity by saying things like:

  • I’m not creative.
  • It’s hard to be creative.
  • I just stick to practical things.
  • I don’t believe in that airy-fairy stuff.
  • I’m not an artist.

These statements were probably deposited into their minds by a parent, teacher, or friend and, over time, became a way of life. You may also hear these types of messages in your head but the key is to ignore them and keep doing your thing.

If you listen to all the naysayers you’ll never follow your dreams. Pay attention to your inner voice, the one that knows how talented you are and how important what you have to say is. Keep moving forward no matter what the critics say. Continue building your self-awareness so you understand what you really want to do in life.

What will you do to develop self-awareness and express your creativity?

Self-Awareness and Coloring outside the Lines - On Developing Self-Awareness and Being Self-Aware

Self-Awareness and Coloring outside the Lines

When you possess self-awareness you’re able to do your own thing instead of being swayed by others. Countless well-meaning parents, teachers, friends, bosses, and institutions crush our spirits by telling us to avoid coloring outside the lines. The say things like: fit in, don’t make waves, be like us, don’t be too different. Unfortunately, conforming to rules is the exact opposite of being creative, where there are no limits.

Coloring outside the lines is the very essence of being your own person. You can do anything you want without worrying about the rules other people put in place to stifle your creativity. You get to live each day as the real you and do the things that bring you joy and fulfillment rather than conforming to what someone else says you should do.

A big part of self-awareness is following your own inner voice. You decide where you go, what you do, and how you do it. There are no rules, just the ones that you create.

What will you do to develop self-awareness and color outside the lines?

What's Your Level of Self-Awareness? - On Developing Self-Awareness and Being Self-Aware

What’s Your Level of Self-Awareness?

It can be challenging to determine what your level of self-awareness is without having some frame of reference. Here are some brief guidelines to help you figure out where you’re at:

Level 1 – You Say You Know Yourself

You say you know yourself but your description doesn’t match the reality. You tend to live by reacting unconsciously to your environment.

Level 2 – You Know a Few Things about Yourself

You can recognize some of the things you think, feel and do but you have little or no control over when or how you do them.

Level 3 – You Begin Understanding Why You Do Stuff

You begin to examine and comprehend why you think, feel and behave the way you do and are able to consciously make small changes.

Level 4 – You Understand Yourself at a Deeper Level

You are able to think, feel and behave consciously rather than reactively and live a life based on being the real you.

The great thing about learning about yourself is that it helps you become stronger, healthier, and more connected to your true path in life. What will you do to keep increasing your self-awareness?

Increase Your Self-Esteem through Self-Awareness - On Developing Self-Awareness and Being Self-Aware

Increase Your Self-Esteem through Self-Awareness

You can increase your self-esteem by developing your self-awareness. For example, you’ll be a more confident, courageous person when:

  • You know who you are deep inside.
  • You know what you want in life.
  • You follow your passions.
  • You live authentically.
  • Your thoughts, feelings and behaviors are positive.
  • You have healthy boundaries.
  • You value yourself because you know how amazing you are.
  • You steer clear of people who try to sabotage your progress.
  • You genuinely like yourself.

When you do these types of things you feel better about yourself. A lot of people encounter unnecessary difficulties and heartaches in life because they move away from who they really are deep inside. The more self-awareness you possess, the more you’ll enjoy life as the real you and the happier you’ll be. What will you do to keep increasing your self-esteem?

Self-Awareness and Being Balanced - On Developing Self-Awareness and Being Self-Aware

Self-Awareness and Being Balanced

I was talking to a highly accomplished leader today who had the self-awareness to realize he was feeling overwhelmed from juggling multiple projects and tasks and not allotting time for activities that would provide him more balance. His story is the same as countless other leaders trying to make sense of their work or personal lives.

You can become so engrossed in living at a rapid pace that you forget you can enjoy life more if you pause occasionally to relax, recharge and reflect. Take some time during your day to not do anything. Look at a sunset, sit by a stream, go walking in the city with no particular goal. Life becomes more enjoyable when you take time to regain your balance.

A big part of building self-awareness is the ability to monitor how you’re thinking, feeling and behaving and knowing when you need to shift direction a bit. Balance helps you maintain a positive course because it keeps you grounded and focused on the bigger picture. You’ll always experience highs and lows but, if you nurture the middle, you’ll be able to deal with anything that comes your way. What will you do to create balance in your life?

Self-Awareness and How to Be Successful in Life - On Developing Self-Awareness and Being Self-Aware

Self-Awareness and How to Be Successful in Life

How to be successful in life? Practice self-awareness by deciding what you genuinely want to do deep down inside and then start taking action. Here are five steps you can take to create success in your life:

1. Think of what you want to happen.

2. Think of three things you can do to achieve that goal.

3. Pick one thing to take action on and start doing it today.

4. Check in with yourself to see how you’re progressing.

5. When you’ve finished one goal, move on to the next.

The purposeful act of choosing to do something and then following through literally builds self-awareness and trains your mind to take on challenges. When you achieve any goal it opens up great possibilities because you begin to understand that you really can impact your work life in significant ways.

Any shift in your work life begins with a conscious desire to accomplish something. The key to success is going from the abstract thought phase to actually taking action and doing something. Try these steps today on any goal you want to achieve and follow through until you generate results. Along the way you will be learning, growing, and increasing your chances of success.
