People Who Lack Self-Awareness Get Stuck in Patterns

It’s really normal for people who lack self-awareness to get stuck in a pattern, even if it’s negative. They become accustomed to the pattern to the point where it becomes normal. They take it for granted and just live with it.

For many people the key to getting unstuck is to build self-awareness and do something differently. For example: If you’ve had a certain kind of results in a relationship, doing something different has the inevitable result of changing the situation. But there is one caveat, you have to do it consistently over time until the new behavior takes root.

Try taking some part of your life and consciously doing something differently. Do it over time until it becomes your new “normal.” Lather, rinse and repeat. This approach can be applied to any number of issues. Keep it simple and do one at a time, you’ll eventually see the results.

What will you do to develop self-awareness and avoid getting stuck in a negative pattern?

Self-Aware Guys Are Nice and Finish First - On Developing Self-Awareness and Being Self-Aware

Self-Aware Guys Are Nice and Finish First

If you’ve ever heard the tired old saying that nice guys finish last, and believed it, then you might be surprised to find out that it’s profoundly wrong. For some unhealthy reason, our culture has decided that being self-aware and nice is an awful thing and that aggressive jerks are much happier. We’ve also convinced ourselves that whoever amasses the most stuff is naturally the winner. Perspectives like these ignore the things that really bring joy to people’s lives:

  • Possessing self-awareness.
  • Working through one’s unresolved issues.
  • Being comfortable with one’s emotions.
  • Treating people with kindness and empathy.
  • Doing things that make the world a better place for everyone.
  • Caring for the vulnerable.
  • Letting go of the need to win.
  • Not having to be on top of someone else to feel good about oneself.
  • Building positive relationships.
  • Helping everyone succeed.

No amount of money, power, or material possessions can make someone meaningfully happy. As you’ve probably read time after time, many extremely wealthy and powerful people are as miserable as can be, they just have a lot of stuff. They sit surrounded by their extravagant things in their expensive houses and have to work that much harder to convince themselves that it all means anything important.

Finishing first in life means that you’ve achieved the pinnacle of self-awareness where you are so healthy and comfortable with yourself that you spread peace and joy within yourself and throughout the world. The only things that really matter in life are how you feel deep inside about yourself, how well you treat others, and what nice things you do to improve everyone’s well-being; everything else is just window dressing. Nice guys finish first because they’ve done the hard work necessary to become so self-aware that they’re genuinely happy with themselves and are able to spread that joy. If you want to find out who really finishes last, look for the miserable person trying to make another million or billion so he can feel safe for another ten minutes.

What will you do to develop self-awareness, be nice, and live a great life?

Self-Awareness and the Joys of Letting Go - On Developing Self-Awareness and Being Self-Aware

Self-Awareness and the Joys of Letting Go

Self-awareness helps you let go of negative issues and live joyfully because, when you understand your emotions, thoughts, and behaviors, you’re able to focus on what’s really important in life rather than letting less crucial things hold you back.

Have you ever kept doing something even though you know it doesn’t work? Perhaps you keep enabling a negative behavior in yourself or someone else. This is natural because we tend to be most comfortable with what we know. The next time you find yourself hanging on to this negative thing try something new and let it go.

The act of consciously letting go and moving on helps us heal and think of new perspectives. People who let go of the monkey on their back suddenly find they can walk taller and more comfortably. We can take a breath and see our issues for what they really are; things that we can actually deal with. When we give negative behaviors less importance they have a way of going away.

Try letting go sometime, because everyone deserves to feel unburdened. What will you do to develop self-awareness and let go of the things that don’t bring you joy in life?

It Takes Self-Awareness to Look at Yourself - On Developing Self-Awareness and Being Self-Aware

It Takes Self-Awareness to Look at Yourself

There are many individuals who construct idealized versions of themselves to avoid having to look at how they really think and behave and the results they’re getting. It takes self-awareness to look at yourself, admit that something isn’t working and change direction. Here are some questions to ask yourself to stop fighting the facts and live based on what’s actually going on in your life and what you’re capable of doing:

  • What do I do in my life that causes me discomfort?
  • What can I do to let go of the things that cause me discomfort?
  • What would I change about myself to feel more comfortable?
  • What can I do to focus on my own behaviors rather than what other people do?
  • What patterns in my life would I change so I could be happier?
  • What am I willing to do to move in a positive direction?
  • What’s my plan for letting go of the thoughts and behaviors that don’t help me?
  • What will I do to be the same person privately and publicly?
  • What will I do to live authentically?

No amount of fighting the facts can change the reality of how you behave and the results you get in life. Take some time to answer questions like the ones I’ve suggested here and get to know yourself on a deeper level so you can live authentically and happily. Life is much more rewarding when you take a good look at yourself and follow your true path.

Self-Awareness Increases Your Creativity - On Developing Self-Awareness and Being Self-Aware

Self-Awareness Increases Your Creativity

People ask me where creativity comes from and I’m happy to answer that it lives inside each of us. Every person has the ability to create something that didn’t exist before, all it requires is an openness to building self-awareness, and being yourself, the real you. Once you give yourself the permission to be creative, new and wonderful things will flow from your mind.

Being creative is the process by which you take what’s bubbling inside you and give it a new life in the outside world. It can be through poetry, art, music, mathematics, business or any discipline you enjoy. The key to creativity is to let go of the need to be right, or be swayed by the voices in your head that tell you to do things a certain way, and let yourself fly. Don’t worry about what people think or hold yourself to some abstract standard, just let your heart speak and have a good time.

As you increase your self-awareness, you’ll be better able to identify what you love to create, what your process is, and how you can apply it to your own life. It’s an ongoing journey of self-discovery that you get to enjoy along the way.

What will you do to develop self-awareness and increase your creativity?

Lack of Self-Awareness and Missed Opportunities - On Developing Self-Awareness and Being Self-Aware

Lack of Self-Awareness and Missed Opportunities

A lot of people who don’t value self-awareness live lives of missed opportunities; unconsciously reacting to their environment and passing up the chance to do things that really matter to them.

You get to decide how your life unfolds. If you choose to live with courage you might do things like:

  • Tell people you love them.
  • Promote peace.
  • Build positive relationships.
  • Work on resolving your inner hurts.
  • Do nice things for others.
  • Follow your dreams.
  • Do things that create a better world.
  • Increase your self-awareness.

While these types of actions might seem daunting and complex at first glance, taking small steps each day can build amazing things over time. Each positive action you take has a way of reverberating in the universe; at very least, you’ll feel good about what you’re doing.

I truly enjoy connecting with self-aware people because they focus on the things that really mean something in life. What will you do to develop self-awareness and avoid missing opportunities?

Guy

Self-Awareness Is about You - On Developing Self-Awareness and Being Self-Aware

Self-Awareness Is about You

It’s hard to experience self-awareness if you decide you don’t want to work on it. You have a lot of power to decide what you’re willing to do. You can move forward confidently or you can put up obstacles. The only person who chooses whether you grow and succeed is you.

Take some time to think of the areas in your life you’d like to improve and what would make you feel happy and balanced. Then it’s up to you to determine where you want to start and what you’re willing to do. The key in self-awareness is to live authentically and take action on the things that will help you live a genuine life.
